Italian Film Festival: Women in Cinema
a tribute to great Italian actresses of the past and present
Agata and the Storm
by Silvio Soldin
The fifth movie of the Italian Film Festival “Women in Cinema”.
“Wherever Agata passes, light bulbs snap and electrical devices blow up and obviously, something is in the air”
Directed by Silvio Soldini, one of the most famous young film directors in Italy, Agata and the Storm tells the story of Agata (Licia Maglietta), a 40-year-old bookseller. Agata has her own bookshop in the seaport of Genoa (Northen Italy) and she works together with Maria Libera to convey their encyclopaedic knowledge of world literature to an eager audience.
Wherever Agata passes, light bulbs snap and electrical devices blow up and obviously, something is in the air, and there will be numerous changes in the lives of Agata and her extended family, though the titular storm never really breaks.
Agata e la tempesta is first and foremost a funny fantasy, an escape from reality where gayness and dreamlike are the qualities of Agata and her world.
