From 18 to 24. 2. 2008: Performance of Calligraphy 18:00 – 19:00 hours

On the occasion of the early Spring 2008, the Maison des Arts (31A Van Mieu Street) is scheduled to hold a performance of calligraphy – a Letters Dance Ball – very original, with the participation by 3 groups: Classical Calligraphy of Le Quoc Viet Group, Han-Nom Calligraphy of Vu Thanh Tung Group, and (Romanized) Mother-Tongue Calligraphy of Trinh Tuan Group.

…The performance syndicates the varied styles in the 3 categories of letters that symbolize the 3 periods of Vietnamese language history: Han-Nom, (Romanized) Mother Tongue, and Classical Type…

…Maison des Arts will turn into a House of Letters. Its ground floor is expected to be covered with letters, letters in all corners of the halls, standing impressively on the doors, dancing on the walls, crawling on the ground, swinging from the ceiling, shrouding over all objects …, thus giving them a fresh profile and spirit.

In other words, the artists plan to fill all the spaces available with letters in a distinctive Oriental spirit, showing their beauty and blending the traditional with the modern. A special item is the performance of writing calligraphic letters on the human bodies. Then the letters and the human bodies will be mingled into one entity, the latter creating letters and expressing feelings, emotions and messages via the letters, and the former showing their presence, flourishing and dancing on the human bodies…
