Alvar Aalto Houses – Timeless Expressions
The Embassy of Finland organizes, in cooperation with the Vietnam Association of Architects and the Alvar Aalto Museum, the exhibition Alvar Aalto Houses – Timeless Expressions to pay tribute to this Finnish world wide known architect and designer. Alvar Aalto (1898 – 1976) ranks among the first and most influential modernists and is today recognized as one of the masters of modern architecture all over the world.
Finnish Master of Modern Architecture
Driven by his idealism and guided by his philosophy of architecture’s “ulterior motive” in creating buildings as symbols of “the idea of creating paradise” for ordinary mortals Alvar Aalto designed nearly 100 single family houses. The exhibition “Alvar Aalto Houses -Timeless Expressions” highlights 17 of these single family houses which form a varied and interesting component of his extensive output. Buildings are presented through a selection of photographs, architectural drawings and scale models.
The exhibition presents also a variety of furniture and other objects by Aalto. They are designed according to his principles that the interior design and furnishings had to be in harmony with the architectural style of the building.
Alvar Aalto was an idealist with a strong belief in the future and a reformer with a desire to improve the world.
Architecture cannot save the world, but it can set a good example.
